There are numerous home help and home health aide businesses throughout Central Pennsylvania. Many of these services provide much-needed services to people who would like to remain in their homes but are in need of assistance with activities of daily living. However, when a home help or health care company fails to live up to its end of the bargain, it leaves people in unsafe situations and places our loved ones in danger.

Atlee Hall represented the family of a disabled person who required assistance from a caregiver in order to help her remain independent in her home. The home health aide advised her employer she would not be coming into work and therefore not seeing our client. The company chose not to find a replacement and send someone to assist the client who hired them. As a result, she was left alone for more than 24 hours, during which she sustained severe burn injuries that later resulted in her death.

This was a situation filled with betrayal and violation of trust. The defendant company promised, on its website and advertising materials, to “help to keep you independent in your home,” and to provide “premiere in-home care solutions.”  The defendant represented that it was “dedicated to and recognized for [its] passion and commitment to serve, help, and enhance the quality of life and well being of others with respect to maintaining the independence of persons with disabilities and the elderly” and offered consumers “peace of mind through the services of our reliable and caring staff” and “24/7 on-call availability.”

In this case, they did not practice what they preached. The team at Atlee Hall helped hold the defendant accountable with the aim of preventing this from happening again to another family in our community.
