We partnered with co-counsel to represent three young children left without their parents after a defective artificial Christmas tree, imported from China, caught fire in their family home.
The fire claimed the lives of both parents and two of their siblings. Through Fire Cause and Origin, Engineering, and Reconstruction experts, we were able to establish the ultimate cause of the fire and trace it back to the defective tree.
Why This Case Matters
A product marketed for family homes during the holiday season should not become the source of a fatal fire. Establishing how an imported artificial tree ignited and spread fire fast enough to claim four lives required detailed reconstruction of the fire's origin and progression, along with an understanding of how the product was manufactured and imported into the United States.
For the three surviving children, this case was about more than accountability. It was about securing the resources they would need to rebuild their lives after losing their parents and two siblings in a single, preventable tragedy, and about preventing similarly defective products from reaching other families.
